Ok everyone, here is the FAQ page.  I hope that most of your questions will be answered here, and if they are not, then feel free to email me and I'll do my best to help you out.

Q: I see a lot of pictures on the site, but none of the photos have "me" in them.  What gives?  Does Dan "hate me"?

A: No, I don't hate you.  I'm new to this web publishing process and I'm learning as I go along.  I try to get a as many photos up on a web page with at least one picture including every attendee.  I'm trying to limit the numbers of photos on a page to a hundred or so, to cut down on excessive download times for those visiting the site with a slow connection.

Q: I see a photo in the photo gallery that I want.  What do I do?

A:  If you see a photo that you would like on the event gallery page.  Click on the photo, and that will cause a larger photo to open up in another window or another page in your browser.  Right click on this second photo, and you will have the option of saving this file to you computer.  Select "Save As" and select the destination were you want the file to be stored.  If you only want a few photos, this is the best way to get them.  If you would like the whole folder with hundreds of files, refer to the next couple of questions for your answer.

Q: Dan takes a lot of pictures and I know there are more photos, what did he do with them all?

A: Yep, I do take a lot of pictures.  The more photos you take, the better chance you have of getting a great photo.  I look through all of the photos taken at an event and pick the very best, in my humble opinion, and put them into the photo gallery for that event.  All of the photos, including the pictures on the web pages, are uploaded to the FTP section of my web server.

Q: What's FTP?  I'm confused now.

A:  FTP is File Transfer Protocol.  This is a method of logging into my web server and getting all of those awesome photo files.  I don't know of any method right now where u can view the file before downloading it, so it would probably be best if you just download the whole folder and then sort through which photos you want.  It will take you a bit more time, but save you a big headache trying to figure out what each file name means.  And for that matter, besides describing the basic event, the filename doesn't give you any additional information as to what the file/photo might be.

Q: Ok, I want to learn how to FTP and get those pictures.  How do I do it?

A:  That is easy.  First you need an FTP program.  I use Filezilla.  It's a great little FTP Program that is easy to set up.  And the best thing of all, it's FREE.  Yep, no cost to you.  Now here is what you need to do.  First, click on the Filezilla link above and download the Filezilla Client installation file onto your computer.  I download the file onto my desktop to make it easy to find.  You can place it anywhere you want on your local drive.  Once the file is downloaded onto your computer, double click on it to start the install process.  Use the default settings of the install process, and you shouldn't have a problem.  Once the program is installed, here is what you need to do next.

First:  Click on File and then Site Manager.  Once you see the site manager, then click on My Sites in the left window.  Then at the bottom of that left window, click on New Site.

Second: A new site will appear on the site manager tree.  Just click on the New Site and then click Rename at the bottom of the left window.  Rename the new site to Dans Friends FTP.  This will allow you to set the settings for my FTP server.

Third: Input the following information on the right side of the Site Manager dialog box.  In the Host Box type "socaldan.com" without the quotes.  For Server type select "FTP-File Transfer Protocol".  In the Logintype box select "normal".  For the user name put in "Friends@socaldan.com" without quotes.  For the password box, you will have to contact Dan for the password.  There you have it.  Log on to the FTP site and navigate to the folder or file you would like to download.  If you are part of Dan's Family, and you want to gain access to Dan's Family FTP site, use family@socaldan.com as your user name and again, ask Dan for the password.  There you have it.  If you have any problems, let me know and I'll help you as best I can.

Q: I would like to upload some files to Dan and allow Dan to put my photos on his web page.  How do I do that?

A: Right now, I'm not allowing people to log in and upload any files.  Just trying to prevent the spread of viruses and stuff like that.  Eventually, I might permit that type of upload, but I'm not sure about that right now.  If you want to upload files via FTP.  Contact Dan, and he'll be able to set up an individual FTP account which permits uploads.

Q: I love the photo that Dan took of with Me and "whom every" in it.  What can I do with the photo?

A:  I allow anyone in my photos to use them how every they want for non-commercial uses.  This means that if you want to use my photo for a personal Christmas card, personal letterhead or individual business card that is alright.  As long as you don't sell or permit the photo to be used for any form of compensation.  I know this sounds a little paranoid, but you never know what might happen with one of my photos.

Finally, as always, if you have a question, email me and I'll help you out the best I can.
